Crowns and Bridges
Crowns are placed over the front teeth when fractured due to trauma or post endodontic treatment. Cases of discoloured teeth or with intrinsic stains require smile designing. Smile designing involves the placement of multiple crowns to get the desired smile. Cases involving mildly irregular or forwardly positioned teeth can be corrected with smile designing. Severe tooth malpositions are corrected with orthodontics.
Crowns over posterior teeth are placed after root canal treatment for providing strength to the tooth. Additionally grossly worn out teeth require full mouth rehabilitation with placement of multiple crowns on the posterior teeth.
These crowns are available in metal, ceramic/porcelain fused to metal and zirconia/ metal free ceramic varieties.
Bridges are placed to replace the missing tooth/teeth by taking support of the neighbouring teeth. This leads to the placement of multiple crowns in an area where the teeth are missing. Since the advent of dental implants where the neighbouring teeth need not be prepared dentists are preferring dental implants to bridges except in medically compromised patients.
Bridges are available in metal, porcelain fused to metal and metal free ceramic material.
